They were ambushed and fired on by a small body of militia, who fired so wildly as to do little or no harm, except to stampede some of the cattle, which returned home, and then they stampeded themselves, making very good Ball Run times. But the country undefended must be exposed to incursions such as that which occasioned no much excitement three weeks ago.
