The rebel loss was heavy. Zollcoffer's dead body is in possession of our forces. Balits Peyton, jr. one of Zollicoffer's staff, was also killed. There were 275 of the rebels killed and wounded, which were found on the ground. The 10th Indiana lost 75 killed and wounded. No further Federal loss." The reported account also says that it was a complete Federal victory, and the Confederates were utterly routed, and fied in confusion. My opinion of the account is, that it is another specimen of Yankee bragadocia. The same paper chronicies a victory over Jeff Thompson, at Ironton, Mo. after a desperate conflict, resulting in the loss of a great many killed and wounded on both sides. The Federals retreated, leaving their baggage. Mesgre particulars of this fight occupy two columns of the Press.
