n of Mr. Barbour at his own request. The Speaker announced that the nomination of candidates for Confederate Senators was now in order. Mr. Newton, of Westmoreland, again nominated R. M. T. Hunter. Mr. Crockett re-nominated William Ballard Preston. Mr. Green nominated Chas. W. Russell. Mr. Walker nominated Wm. C. Rives, of Albemarle. Mr. Collier, of Petersburg, nominated William Daniel, Jr., of Campbell. Messrs, Anderson of Rockbridge,Robertson of Richmond, Nolan, Vaiden and Spady, made speeches defining their positions. There being no more nominations made, the Speaker directed Mr. Newton to convey to the Senate the intelligence that the House was ready to proceed to the election of Confederate Senators. M. Collier withdrew the nomination of Wm. Daniel, Jr., at that gentleman's request. After some delay in the proceedings, a message was received from the Senate informing the House that it was now ready to proceed to the election.
