The public will be deeply grieved to learn the death of this distinguished Virginian.
He died in Petersburg on Wednesday night. He had served with decided reputation in the old United States Congress, and subsequently filled with distinction the important position of Minister at Brazil.
He was a gentleman of the most pure and elevated character, and his loss will be deeply deplored by all who know how to value exalted intellect and unspotted moral worth.
