Matrimony
--We were slightly in error yesterday in stating that matrimony had been interdicted for an indefinite period in this region by recent occurrences.
Intending parties getting alarmed yesterday besieged the office of the Clerk of the Hustings Court all the morning.
By seven o'clock the Deputy Clerk had issued five licenses.
No doubt during the day he issued as many more.
The fact that so many couples are willing to risk the chances of a life engagement at this crisis is in the highest degree pleasing and satisfactory.
It demonstrates that our people are determined to be conquered only by Cupid.
The latter must be considered an invincible little warrior, when we remember that bacon is 40 cents per pound, coffee $1, and tea can't be had, and yet our amorous swains, undismayed press on.
