The Dabney Artillery.
--We are requested to return the thanks of Capt. Dabney, his officers and men, to Mrs. Capt Childress and Mrs. Chafin, for various courtesies received while on a tour of duty down the river.
Their kindness presented a pleasing contrast to the conduct of some individuals, who charged them $1.50 per pound for butter, 45 cents per dozen for eggs, and other articles of food in proportion.
We should not omit to say that this company has been presented, by Richard Allen, Esq., with a beautiful flag, which the members of the corps will take care not to disgrace.
There is a time coming when the soldiers, as well as the community generally, will "mark and distinguish" the extortioners, but will remember with proud pleasure those whose patriotism has found an outlet in acts of liberality and kindness.
