The Daily Dispatch: may 22, 1862., [Electronic resource], Later from New Orleans — Mote of Bufler's Tyranny. (search)
From New Mexico.
An official dispatch from New Mexico says that the Confederate forces in that territory, met, whipped, and entirely routed the reinforcements sent from Colorado to Gen. Canby of the Federal army.
The engagement occurred on the 27th of March, twenty-three miles from Santa Fe, which point is now the headquarters of the Confederate army.
The vigilance and activity of the small Confederate force which has been operating with such success in the territories of Arizona and New Mexico, is worthy of all commendation.
Composed principally of gallant Texans, men accustomed to the hardships of frontier life, they have cheerfully endured the privations and trials of the most exhausting marches, and have accomplished some of the most brilliant achievements of the war. Equipped as they are, the success which has attended their arms is a matter of astonishment.
