A noble old man. --When the 44th Georgia regiment was organized, the Rev. Wm. Sanders, a Baptist clergyman, sixty-five years of age, volunteered as a private, though the owner of an immense cotton plantation and one hundred and five servants. Having entered the service, the old man availed himself of every opportunity to do good to his comrades. Besides the regular duties of the soldier, he performed those of a minister, visiting the sick, preaching the gospel, and in a thousand ways making himself useful. When his regiment reached this city he received the appointment of colporteur by the Board located here. General Longstreet cheerfully released him from service, and now he is laboring with remarkable success, distributing religious reading among all the regiments of his brigade.
