The late Captain Otey. Among the gallant men who fell at the battle of Chickahominy, none are more deeply lamented than Capt. Charles C. Otey, of Bedford, who commanded the Gloucester battery with such intrepidity and success, and who breathed out his brave soul in the lap of victory. In the bloom of youth and promise, with high hopes and a character chivalric and lofty, another costly sacrifice has been laid upon the alter of the hand who is desolating so many homes and hearts. We know that it is but one of the "noble army of martyrs" who are laying down their lives for liberty; but, knowing him personally, and looking forward with interest and hope to his future career, we could not refrain from this brief tribute to his memory, and from the expression of profound sympathy with those whose only star has vanished from the sky.
