Gen. D. H. Hill's Division,Gen. Garland's Brigade,near Richmond, July 23d, 1862 A Meeting, composed of the soldiers from Granville county, N. C., was held this day, for the purpose of selecting suitable persons to represent the county of Granville in the ensuing Legislature of North Carolina. Capt. A. D. Peace, 23d N. C. regiment, was appointed Chairman, and Lt. N. A. Gregory, 23d N. C., and W. J. Roberts, 12th N. C., Secretaries. The Chairman appointed the following committee to report resolutions for the action of the meeting: Dr. R. J. Hicks, Lieut, J. T. Bullock, Lieut. G. M. Griffin, Lieut. Wm. F. Overton, K. W. Coghill, John S. Meadows, J. D. Knott, E. L. Flemming, and R. B. Beasley, who reported the following preamble and resolutions, which were unanimously adopted: Whereas,, we will soon have to vote for suitable persons to represent the county of Granville in the ensuing Legislature of North Carolina, and whereas it becomes our duty to select able and true men

The employees of Railroad companies are authorized and requested to examine the passes and furloughs of soldiers passing over their roads, and to arrest all deserters and persons absent without leave from the army whenever they may be found on said roads, and to deliver them to an officer of the army at the most convenient post or station, or to lodge them in jail and report their names and regiments to the Adjutant and Inspector General, Richmond. Thirty dollars will be paid for all deserters delivered to an officer, and fifteen dollars for each deserter lodged in jail. No allowance will be made for the expenses of apprehension and transportation. All jailors receiving deserters are requested to detain them. By command of the Secretary of War. (Signed) S. Camp Farrar's farm,near Richmond,July 23, 1862. all absent members of this company, and those absent at the time of re-organization, subject to the Conscript law, are hereby ordered to report at this camp immediately, or send certificate of an army surgeon of their inability to do so, or they will be advertised as deserters and treated accordingly.
