Pardoned. --Executive clemency was yesterday extended by Governor Letcher to Jim, a slave, condemned to be hung for murder by the County Court of Botetourt. Another darkey was condemned for the same offence, whose testimony was chiefly instrumental in condemning Jim. On the gallows the former acknowledged that, for the purpose of averting suspicion from himself, he had falsely accused Jim. Hence the pardon, which was granted for this and other reasons.
