Council Proceedings --At the last meeting of the Council the resignation of D. J. Saunders, Jr., second Clerk of the Auditor, was read, together with a recommendation of the Auditor of some half dozen persons to fill his place. Mr. Hill, of the Council, referring to the very limited amount of work now done in any of the public offices, said that the Chamberlain's clerk could very easily assist to make out the quart rly bills for gas and water, and thus save $1,200 per annum to the city. He saw no reason for electing a second clerk at the present time. The Council coinciding in his views, the matter was postponed.
