Garroting. --Franklin Roberts was handed ever to the Mayor yesterday by the detectives, charged with garroting Joseph Johnson on Friday night last, and robbing him of about $150 in Confederate money. Johnson testified that as he was passing up Franklin street about half past 9 o'clock, the prisoner accosted him, and professing to be an acquaintance, commenced a conversation and continued it till they walked up to Broad street, by the Theatre, and thence to Clay street, when prisoner knocked witness down, chocked him severely, and then robbed him. Prisoner denied the charge, and declared that he had never seen the witness till he was arrested. The Mayor sent the case on to the Hustings Court.
