In the House of Commons, Monday, July 6, Mr Roebuck appealed to Lord Palmerston to fix Thursday or Monday next for the resumption of the debate on the recognition of the Confederate States. His lordship replied that if the House would let the Government bring in the fortifications bill that night, and read it a second time on Thursday, he would give Mr. Roebuck Monday for the debate, and do his best to secure him precedence on that night.
