It is generally believed that the Gibraltar, on her arrival at Nassau, will be further strengthened, and eventually resume her old occupation of looking after Union merchantmen. The Gibraltar look out the monster guns which caused her to be detained by the Custom House authorities a few days ago. In the House of Lords Monday, July 6, Earl Russell stated that, if possible, he would on Friday make a statement in regard to Polaod. In the House of Commons, Monday, July 6, Mr Roebuck appealed to Lord Palmerston to fix Thursday or Monday next for the resumption of the debate on the recognition of the Confederate States. His lordship replied that if the House would let the Government bring in the fortifications bill that night, and read it a second time on Thursday, he would give Mr. Roebuck Monday for the debate, and do his best to secure him precedence on that night.
