The Forgery case. --Alexander D. Cheatwood, arrested on the charge of passing forged checks signed by Laniers, Tolleson & Catlett, appeared before the Mayor yesterday morning. Mr. Gilmer, counsel for the accused, asked a postponement of the case, that evidence which he deemed material for the defence might be procured. The Mayor, although by so doing, said a precedent might be established which would prove injurious in the future business before the Court, consented, under the circumstad, asked a postponement of the case, that evidence which he deemed material for the defence might be procured.
