The Mayor continued the case till Monday, and bailed the accused in the sum of $500 to appear and answer. Thomas Bird, a free negro, arrested for stealing a horse, will undergo an examination on Saturday. Mr. George Dabney Wootten, counsel for Bird, made an earnest appeal to His Honor to bail his client; he was confident of proving the negro's innocence, andayor continued the case till Monday, and bailed the accused in the sum of $500 to appear and answer. Thomas Bird, a free negro, arrested for stealing a horse, will undergo an examination on Saturday. Mr. George Dabney Wootten, counsel for Bird, made an earnest appeal to His Honor to bail his client; he was confident of proving the negro's innocence, and did not see why he should not be permitted to go at large till the trial. The Mayor refused to comply and Thomas was committed to jail.
