The United States and Russia. --The appearance of a Russian fleet in New York has started a good deal of speculation and conjecture. It probably indicates nothing more than an increasing friendship between the two despotisms, the natural result of their recent assimilation in the principles of government, and the abseinevitably rally to the side of the Southern Confederacy, and we shall be the decided gainers by the new combinations. As a naval power France is far superior to Russia, and as a military power, there is no comparison between them. If Abraham can wheedle Russia into an alliance with the United States, and thereby bring France inRussia into an alliance with the United States, and thereby bring France into the ring, he will for the first time in his life prove a benefactor of the human race. Not only the oppressed of America will be the gainers, but enslaved nations of Europe will seize the opportunity to break the yoke of the heartless despotism which, only a few years ago, England and France humbled to the dust.
