Stealing ladies' dresses. --Mrs. Rosanna Reid, a white woman, was again before the Mayor yesterday, to answer the charge of having in her possession several dresses, said to have been stolen from Mrs. Sarah Edwards. For the defendant two Irish soldiers, belonging to Battery No. 4, appeared as witnesses; but their testimony was given in such a confused and equivocal manner, that, instead of exonerating the accused, they themselves became involved in the difficulty, and were held in custodyto answer the charge of having in her possession several dresses, said to have been stolen from Mrs. Sarah Edwards. For the defendant two Irish soldiers, belonging to Battery No. 4, appeared as witnesses; but their testimony was given in such a confused and equivocal manner, that, instead of exonerating the accused, they themselves became involved in the difficulty, and were held in custody by the Mayor. Mrs. Edwards was required to give security for her appearance before the Hustings Court.
