The European Exodus.
--As we have stated, the number of emigrants who arrived at New York last year was 155,223--which is more than double the number of the year preceding.
We get from a Washington letter, dated 23d ult. in the New York Journal of Commerce, the following particulars of this vast tide of humanity setting towards America.
The statement is for the eleven months of 1863, omitting December, and is copied from the official records at the Yankee capital:
From Ireland86,691
From Germany32,801
From England16,893
From Denmark1,567
From Switzerland1,078
From France1,195
From Wales1,083
From Scotland1,664
From Sweden1,359
From Italy405
From Holland379
From Belgium456
From West Indies242
From Spain152
Various others374
Total146,519
It is difficult for a plain man to understand why the emigration has been more than doubled within the twelvemonth, without assuming that it is stimulated by the Yankee Government.
