--James Clendenin, the penitentiary convict who interfered and saved Mr. Charles S. Maurice, a cutter in the shoe department of the penitentiary, from death at the hands of James Kelley, one of the prisoners, who made a murderous assault on him on Tuesday last, was, immediately after the occurrence of the affair, pardoned by Governor Smith, as a reward for his humane and honorable conduct.
