Attempt to bribe the Confederate naval officers. C. A. Cuthbert was examined before Confederate Commissioner A. H. Sands on yesterday on the charge of attempting to bribe three officers of the Confederate Navy. It seems that last February Cuthbert, who is a Canadian, came to this country from, Nassau, N. P., for the purposeCuthbert, who is a Canadian, came to this country from, Nassau, N. P., for the purpose of selling the Confederate Government two vessels, which be represented as suitable for cruisers.--Leaving the vessels at Nassau, he brought plans and specifications descriptive of them. He asked £90,000 sterling each for the vessels. The Secretary of the Navy appointed a board of five naval officers, among whom were Major Wm. vernment should buy the vessels at the price fixed. The board reported that the price was excessive, and that the vessels should not be purchased, and thereupon Cuthbert left the city on his way back to Nassau via Wilmington.
