Rumored Evacuation of Newbern, N. C.
A flying report was in circulation yesterday to the effect that the Yankee forces had evacuated Newbern.
After diligent inquiry we could trace the rumor to no authentic source.
No such information had been received at the War Department up to a late hour last night.
We can only express the hope that the report may turn out to be true.
