Affairs in New York. --A letter from Montreal, dated April 23d, to the Charleston Courtier, gives the following news from New York city: The New York papers give evidence of the restiveness of the people under the advancing prices. Their columns teem with communications denouncing speculators and extortioners. The ladies are good merchants and milliners. May day, when all New Yorkers consider it a religious necessity to move, is coming on, and people are outraged at the prices of furniture and carpets. Within six months butter has gone up from 25 to 60 cents per pound; coffee from 20 to 50 cents; sugar from 10 to 28 cents; molasses from 40 cents to $1.25 per gallon; mess pork from $15 to $30 per barrel; flour had advanced 50 per cent; whiskey 100 per cent; tea 100 per cent.
