Crook succeeded in overtaking the raiders near Snicker's Gap, that an engagement ensued; that the Confederates "fought like devils;" but that they were finally defeated, leaving three hundred wagons in the hands of Gen. Crook, and also their dead. We have no confirmation of this story from Washington. Major Gen. A. J. Smith has sent a dispatch to Gen. Washburn, in command at Memphis, stating that he encountered the combined forces of S. D.
