From the West. Mobile, August 2, 1864. --The Memphis Evening Times has been received. It states that the steamer Cora Bell had been sunk by rebel batteries at Carolina Landing, on the 24th ult., and was a total loss. A gunboat sent to her relief was driven off. The rebels are moving up towards Columbia; their force consists of four hundred cavalry and four pieces of artillery. The river is said to be effectually blockaded. The Pauline Carroll was also disabled, and was towed off. --There are eight transports at the mouth of White river and cannot go up. The rebels, fifteen hundred strong, under General Dobbs, chased Colonel Brooks's command, of nine hundred men, to within twelve miles of Helena, forcing us back and following ten miles. Colonel Brooks, several prominent officers and thirty seven privates were killed. Colonel Brooks's remains have reached Memphis.
