erday afternoon, at which the following matters were considered: A report was submitted from the Committee on City Hospitals, showing a total deficit of disbursements over receipts of $12,839 37, from the 3d of November, 1863, at which time the hospitals were opened, to the 15th of July, 1864, at which time they were closed.--An ordinance to establish a city work-house was laid on the table.--A report from the Committee on the Gas Works was adopted, increasing the rate for gas from $15 to $30 per 1,000 feet, and increase to go into effect for all gas used on and after the 1st of October, 1864. --An ordinance establishing the office of City Scavenger was adopted, and R. H. Allen was elected to perform the duties.--The office of Wood Measurer was also created, and John F. Glazebrook was elected to fill the vacancy.--An ordinance was adopted regulating the price for interments in Oakwood Cemetery. After the transaction of some other unimportant business, the Council adjourned.
