r false pretences. --By means of false pretences, Thomas H. S. Boyd, formerly of Maryland, obtained on Friday last, from a house belonging to J. W. Allison, but was called upon by Boyd to pay the bill upon a receipt given in the name mentioned ying the rent to any person but himself. On Thursday last, Boyd entered Whitlock's store and presented an account for four rent till eleven o'clock the next day, at which hour Boyd had agreed to be on hand. Officers Seal and Davis were in as soon as he came to the store. According to appointment, Boyd called at eleven o'clock last Friday for his money. Whitlossed not to have the whole amount on hand, and suggested to Boyd that he should take a part of the money and wait for the baborrow enough to make up for what he did not have on hand. Boyd then signed C. C. Ellerson's name to the bill, and was paidhouse occupied by Whitlock, it could not be considered that Boyd had been guilty of a forgery, and he was therefore discharg
