The War News. A report was in circulation yesterday that Early gave the enemy a severe chastise, at New Market on Friday last and drove than two miles. The following official telegram, howeve "Headquarters, &c., September 26, 1864. "To Hon. J. A. Seddon, Secretary of War: "General Early reports that the enemy advanced against him on the 24th instant at New Market. He fell backrobably passed through that place. R. E. Lee." According to unofficial reports, General Early afterwards fell back to Swift Run gap, on the line between Rockingham and Greene counties, ewill soon be able to take the field again.
