Trading with a soldier. --Peter Epps, of Petersburg, Virginia, was brought to this city yesterday, and carried before Confederate States Commissioner Watson, to answer the charge of trading for a pair of shoes with F. W. Welden, member of an Alabama regiment. The statement made by Welden, who was the only witness summoned in the case, proved conclusively that there was no ground for the accusation, and the Commissioner, therefore, very promptly discharged the prisoner. It appears that, a short time since, Welden stopped a day or two at Epps's house, they being friendly towards each other. When he started back to his regiment he left behind a pair of shoes, which were to be called for soon, and it was in consequence of these shoes being discovered in Epps's house that the arrest took place.
