Mayor's Court. --The Mayor on Saturday last disposed of the following cases: Captain Jacob Castle and Major Oliver Vest, of General Breckinridge's command, were charged with assaulting and beating John McPherson, proprietor of Congress Hall, on Friday night. McPherson appeared in court, with his eye considerably bruised, and stated that, about 12 o'clock on the night of the difficulty, the Major and Captain came into his back saloon, and, without the slightest provocation, commenced cursing and abusing him. Upon his remonstrating with them, Captain Castle first struck him over the eye, and then the Major also closed in on him. He finally succeeded in disengaging himself from them, and kept them in the house till the police could be sent for. For the defence, a witness stated that he happened to be in McPherson's saloon when the accused came in.
