Mayor's Court. --A very large number of cases were docketed for His Honor's consideration yesterday. The following list embraces those of most interest to the public: James and Charles, slaves of Mrs. Elizabeth J. Timberlake, were charged with aiding and conniving at the escape to the Yankees of James, slave of Peter Webster, and John, slave of Dr. Edwin Epps. Information of the conduct of the accused was conveyed to Constable Joseph G. Mettert, of Henrico county, by the two negroesack. James subsequently acknowledged at the cage that it was his intention to go to the Yankees, but Charles denied the accusation. The two negroes who it was alleged were to be run off by the accused, appeared as witnesses and stated that Mrs. Timberlake's James persuaded them to leave their owners, promising to put them safely through to the Yankees for the sum of two hundred dollars each, which they paid him.
