Local Matters.city Council. --A special meeting of the Council was held yesterday afternoon. An ordinance, offered by Mr. Scott, was passed, providing that it shall not be lawful for any person, directly or indirectly, to purchase, or otherwise procure, wood from the city wood-yards, or either of them, or supplies of anyfor his or her own use and consumption. A penalty of fifty dollars will be imposed upon any person-violating said ordinance. In advocacy of this ordinance, Mr. Scott stated that instances had come to light where persons had bought wood from the city yard and resold it at three dollars per stick. The Council also suspended the rules in order to permit Mr. Scott to offer an ordinance prohibiting the keeping of explosive missiles on private premises upon a penalty of fifty dollars.
