The News. The Richmond and Petersburg lines. Unbroken quiet reigns along the lines on the north side of James river. The enemy concentrated on the new position on Hatcher's run during Tuesday and Wednesday, but nothing of consequence has grown out of the movement. They captured a portion of our picket line in this vicinity on Tuesday night, but the line was re-established by our forces the next morning. A very handsome little affair occurred one day last week, in the vicinity of Burwell's bay, in which about two hundred and fifty Yankees, belonging to the celebrated Naval brigade, were defeated and routed by a comparatively small force of Confederate scouts, under command of Sergeant Shadburne, assisted by a party of the independent signal corps, under command of Lieutenant Woodley. This force of the enemy had been sent out to intercept and capture a secret expedition known to have been dispatched in that direction recently by our Government. While resting at Burw
Castle Thunder Items. --The following commitments were made to Castle Thunder yesterday by order of Captain Doswell, assistant provost-marshal: Michael Kehoe and James McKenney, citizens of Richmond, and Sarah and Bettie, slaves of Mr. Robbins, of Richmond; Burton, slave of Major Page; Jim Brown, Joe Harris and Jones Brown, free negroes; Tom Gray, slave of William Greanor; Benjamin, slave of Major V. Bennett; Harry and Jane White, slaves of William Hatcher, of Chesterfield; Delilah, slave of Nancy Byrd; Maria Perry and Julius, slaves of Maria Hatcher, of Chesterfield; and America, slave of Robert Michaels, charged with attempting to go North. H. W. Ware, member of the Third Virginia cavalry, was also consigned to that institution on the charge of aiding in the escape of slaves to the enemy.
