From the South--Mobile the Mexicans and Confederates. The Yankee papers contain a good many dispatches from the Southwest. We copy some of them: It is rumored and believed that General Hurlbut is preparing to establish the headquarters of the Department of the Gulf at Mobile. General Granger's expedition against that place is fully prepared, and no doubt exists that the city will be in our hands in less than two weeks. General Baldy Smith has established his commission here to investigate the abuses of this department. Captain Mohler, quartermaster, and Provost-Marshal-General Robinson have already been arrested. Commodore Palmer, commanding the West Gulf blockading squadron, with a fleet of about thirty vessels, mostly iron-clad, will leave for the waters of Mob
Charged with stealing. --Officer Granger, of the day police, arrested, yesterday afternoon, a negro fellow, named Doctor, slave of William Jones, charged with taking, stealing and carrying away four wagon springs, of the value of one hundred and sixty dollars, the property of the Confederate States. He was locked up in the lower station-house for examination before the Mayor this morning.
