Senate. Monday, February 27, 1865.
The Senate was called to order at 10 o'clock A. M. by the President, Lieutenant-Governor Price.
House joint resolutions, relating to the enlistment of slaves for military service, were read twice, and, on motion of Mr. Newlon, laid on the table.
Mr. Lewis presented a communication from Admiral Buchanan, stating that he appreciates the high compliment offered by a resolution passed by the Senate a few days since, and will accept the courtesies of the Senate and do himself the honor to visit the Senate on Wednesday to be introduced to its members.
Mr. Dickinson, from the Committee on Confederate Relations, presented a report on the resolutions of inquiry in respect to paying the soldiers of the Confederate States army, and the reasons why such payment has been so long delayed.
