There is a new paper published in Washington, "The Reconstructionist.
"The editor is Mrs. Jane G. Swishelm, a veteran editor of the Pennsylvania press.
Mrs. Swisshelm, in this number, gives the public a history of the circumstances which led to her connection with the press.
The anti-slavery newspaper of her native place, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, having failed under the successive editorial management of various masculine persons, she determined, after fifteen minutes consideration, to start a paper.
She therefore issued the first number of " The Pittsburg Saturday Visitor," beginning with three subscribers, and the third year had seven thousand.
She had the entire pecuniary and editorial responsibility, continued it ten years, and claims that on one occasion she changed ten thousand votes.
All this time she kept house, and lived eight miles from Pittsburg on a farm.
