The 52d Infantry, Mass. Volunteer Militia, was recruited in Franklin and Hampshire counties, and having completed its organization in camp at Greenfield, Mass., it left the State November 20 for New York, under command of Col. Halbert S. Greenleaf, to form part of the Banks' expedition.
It reached Baton Rouge December 17 and became part of the 2d Brigade, Grover's Div
