Horrible Affair
--A Son Murders his Mother.A young man named Orondough, was committed to the jail of Amherst county, Va., on Monday last, charged with the murder of his mother, on the 7th inst. The parties lived on the Blue Ridge mountain, and the mother having been missed since the 7th inst., suspicions were aroused.
The Lynchburg Republican says:
A large number of persons assembled together, and proceeding to the house, demanded to know of the young man where she was?
His reply was "that he did not know, she might be in hell! " They then told him to go with them in a search which they proposed to make.
This he at first declined, but after much threatening consented to go, and after a long search the mother was found behind an old log, some half mile distant from the house, dead.
Her neck was broken, and her body, in different places, exhibited evidence that she had been beaten to death with some blunt instrument.
