men have left these two counties already in volunteer companies, and many more will soon be ready. On Friday, a Troop under command of Capt. Wm. Patrick, left Waynesboro' for Harper's Ferry. They were a fine looking set of men, and splendidly mounted. A number of their horses were valued at over $200 each. The ladies of WayneWaynesboro' and vicinity have exerted themselves nobly in behalf of the volunteers; not a family in the neighborhood but has sent some member. Last Sunday I heard a regular revolutionary sermon from the Rev. Wm. Richardson, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Waynesboro'. It was very appropriate, and affected many to tears. Tender of service. --The Ladies' Sewing Circle of Clay Street Baptist Church (Rev. Mr. Willis) has tendered its services to the Governor, to prepare lint, bandages and uniforms for our soldiers, and their offer has been accepted. They will meet this morning, at 9 o'clock, at the Clay street Baptist Church, on 4th, near Clay street, to commence the execution of their work.
Remarkable coincidence. The chapter of the Old Testament prescribed by the Episcopal Calendar to be read by the clergy on the morning of the third Sunday after Easter,(last Sunday,) is the 3d chapter of the Prophet Joel,beginning at the 9th verse. Every one who heard it in Richmond, last Sunday morning, must have been struck with the singular coincidence of the words with the solemn events of the day and time. It begins as follows: "Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare for war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: "Beat your plough shares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears: let the weak say I am strong."
