Crittenden (search for this): article 7
The position of Kentucky.
--Notwithstanding the large Union majorities obtained in the recent Congressional elections in Kentucky, it seems to be believed that the State will only await the action of the coming extra session of Congress before determining her final course.
A correspondent of the Philadelphia North American says:
Should that Congress sustain the action of the Government in its war measures, and refuse to adopt such means as may appear acceptable and honorable to bring about a peaceful settlement of pending difficulties.
then will the fate of Kentucky be cast with that of the South.
In furtherance of this, Mr. Crittenden's first act will be the offer of his previously rejected compromise, accompanied by a speech, which will leave no doubt of the determination of his State should the olive branch be again rejected.
