Robbery.
--On Tuesday night last the residence of Mr. W. N. Nedford, on 3d, between Broad and Marshall streets, was visited by thieves, and a splendid watch, set with diamonds, valued at $600, with the chain, and $40 in money, stolen.
The watch was the property of his wife, and was highly valued, having been presented to her a few days previous by the business friends of her husband.--The dressing cabinet of Mrs. R. was entered by the adroit thief while the family were awake and the articles abstracted.

--The Jackson Mississippian says the destruction of the Indianan (the steamer lately captured from the Yankees) was a most unfortunate and unnecessary affair.
The "turreted monster" proved to be a flatboat with sundry fixtures, to create deception.
She passed Vicksburg on Tuesday night, and the officers, believing she was a "turrated monster," blew up the Indianan, but her guns fell into the enemy's hands.
The Queen of the West left in such a hurry us to forget part of her crew, who were left on shore.
Taken altogether, (says the account,) it was a good joke on the Partisan Rangers, who are notoriously more cunning than brave.

The manner in which the Yankee Government has out loose from the Constitution is so quiet, and with so little premonitory notice, that we are even now lost in amusement, and find it impossible to realize the truth in its fullest extent.
The great Republic, the boasted model Government upon earth, the Government that threatened to make all others do as she would have them, that was feared and detested by every one of them — has gone to places as quietly as an old scow beached upon a rocky place of coast, as soon as the waters which had thrown it there subsided.
The idea that the Yankees oculdcarry on a frame of Government like that of the old Union, so complicated of itself, and requiring the use of such delicate machinery, was from the beginning a dream and an illusion.
The Yankee mind is capable of no such exertion.
It could neither have invented the system nor have kept it in operation without the aid of the South.
