ey have been sentenced to be shot, the order to be executed to-morrow. This report is from one of the Pennsylvania cavalry, who saw the villains and recognized them. Twenty wounded were in the covered cars on board the train which the guerrillas shot at. One of the poor fellows, named Remystamsley, a Frenchman, of the 55th New York volunteers, received two bullets in his body and leg. His leg was amputated. About noon to-day our pickets were fired upon by the enemy near Fair Oaks. Captain Shafer, or Shaler, of the Eighty-first Pennsylvania regiment, was instantly killed by a shot through the head.--Major Devereaux, field-officer of the day, had also charge of a picket. He was shot through the shoulder. In its "Situation" article, the Herald says: The guerrilla parties were still hovering about the rear of the Union army before Richmond. The operations of these men are more annoying than really dangerous; still, at the same time, if not put a stop to, will be somewha

rging sundry discharges from the military service of the Confederacy. It appeared in evidence that Wyvill was first arrested by the Provost detectives some time in August last, on the charge of forging pay-rolls. He was once a Lieutenant in Captain Shafer's company, Maryland volunteers. About ten days since defendant was carried before C. S Commissioner Watson, and by him discharged, because the papers then produced did not make out a case on which he could be hold for trial. Among the papers were two bogus discharges, one for himself and another for Charles Tankersley, a member also of Shafer's company.--He was therefore re-arrested and brought before the Mayor to be examined for the last-named offence. Mr. P. H. Aylett appeared on behalf of the Government, and Messrs. Crane and Glimer for Wyvill. Counsel for defence contended that the discharge by Commissioner Watson, he being the examining and committing magistrate of the C. S. District Court, was final. No State law comprehe
ouse on Cary, between 14th and 15th streets, near which vicinity a man was shot last Saturday night, was summoned before the Mayor to-day, and committed for examination on the charge of being accessary to the murder of J. O. Withmed. Aaron F Shafer, proprietor of the Green House, at the corner of Cary and 12th sts., was arraigned for keeping a disorderly and ill-governed house. The police had entered his place about 1 o'clock on Monday night, and arrested him and Thomas Tinsley, John S. Hotter belonging to the army, and nothing being alleged against them, they were discharged. The three other inmates not giving a very satisfactory account of their manner of getting a living, were committed for want of security to keep the peace. Shafer was required to find a surety for his good behavior in the sum of $500, and appear before the Hustings Court Grand Jury and answer an indictment for misdemeanor. In pursuance of the Mayor's intention to rid the city of as many suspicious cha

When this party was being carried to the cage of Monday, the Delias saw him trying to get rid of some articles on his person, and on searching him found eight of Mr. Pearce's watches concealed about his person.
