Zook, Samuel Kosciuzko 1823- Military officer; born in Pennsylvania about 1823; was a telegraph operator, and made some important discoveries in the science of electricity. After 1848 he resided in New York City, and when the Civil War began he became colonel of the 6th New York State militia, and hastened to the army gathering around Washington. He was military governor of Annapolis a while, when he returned, raised the 57th New York Volunteers, and did gallant service on the peninsula, 1823; was a telegraph operator, and made some important discoveries in the science of electricity. After 1848 he resided in New York City, and when the Civil War began he became colonel of the 6th New York State militia, and hastened to the army gathering around Washington. He was military governor of Annapolis a while, when he returned, raised the 57th New York Volunteers, and did gallant service on the peninsula, where he generally commanded a brigade. On Nov. 29, 1862, he was made brigadier-general, and distinguished himself at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and was killed in the latter battle, July 2, 1863.
