A.set opposite to, range in battle against, “τὸ ἄριστον ἀ. Πέρσῃσι” Hdt.5.110; “τίν᾽ ἀντιτάξεις τῷδε;” A.Th.395, cf. 408, etc.; ἀ. τὸν νόμον πρὸς τὴν ἀναίδειαν set the law in opposition to their impudence, Aeschin.3.16, cf.
