A.sit upon, “τινί” Hdt.6.72, Ar.Eq.1093; press upon, be heavy upon, “ἐπί τινι” Id.Ra.1046: also c.acc., “ἐ. καμήλους” App.Syr.32; “πόλις . . λόφον ἐπικαθημένη” D.H.1.14: abs., sit upon eggs, incubate, Arist.HA558a19, 619b14; of bees, ἐ. ἐπὶ τοῖς κηρίοις ib.625a5.
2.. ἐ. ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης (v.l. ἐπὶ τῇ τρ.) sit at his counter, of a banker's clerk or money-changer, D.49.17, cf. 33: abs., “ὁ ἐπικαθήμενος” Id.36.7.
3.. of rain, cling to a flower, Thphr.CP3.24.4.
