II. picking up scraps, gossiping, “ἄνθρωπος” D.H.19.5 (Sup., ib.4); also “πικρὰ καὶ ς. ῥήματα” Plu.2.456c.
III. as Subst., one who picks up and retails scraps of knowledge, an idle babbler, gossip, D. 18.127, Act.Ap.17.18, Ath.8.344c.
