3 حَاذَاهُ ذ , (S, Mgh, Msb, K,) inf. n. مُحَاذَاةٌ (Msb, TA) and حَذَآءٌ, (Msb,) He, (Mgh, Msb,) and it, (Mgh,) was, or became, over against, or opposite to, him, or it; (S, Mgh, TA;) faced, or fronted, him, or it; (TA;) syn. آزَاهُ, (Msb, * K,) and قَابَلَهُ; (TA;) as also ↓ حَذَاهُ , aor. يَحْذُو, (Mgh, Msb,) inf. n. حَذْوٌ: (Msb:) [and] the latter, (S,) or each, (Har p. 43,) signifies he sat over against, or opposite to, him, or it. (S, and Har ibid.) رَأْسَهَامِنَ الشَّعَرِ وَلَا يَسْتَرْسِلُمَا يَحْذُو means ما يُحَاذِيهِ [i. e. What is against, or opposite to, her head, of the hair, and does not hang down below it]. (Mgh. [See another ex. in an explanation of آخِرَةٌ.]) One also says, أَتَيْتُ أَرْضًا بَقْلُهَا عَلَى أَفْوَاهِ غَنَمِهَاقَدْ حَذَا I came to a land the herbs of which were opposite to the mouths of its sheep, or goats, not rising beyond them. (Sh, TA.) And بِحِذَآءِ هٰذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِتَحَذَّ Be thou over against, or opposite to, this tree. (TA.) ― -b2- حَاذَتْهَا, said of a girl, She matched her, namely, another girl; she was, or became, her match, fellow, or equal; syn. تَارَبَتْهَا. (A and TA in art. ترب.) ― -b3- [Hence مُحَاذَاةٌ signifying A conformity, a mutual resemblance, or a correspondence, with regard to sound, of two words occurring near together; like اِزْدِوَاجٌ &c.: see art. زوج.]
