If I had attempted to
claim that you were first inspired with the spirit of your forefathers by me,
every one would justly rebuke me. But I do not: I am asserting these principles
as your principles; I am showing you that such was the pride of Athens long before my
time,—though for myself I do claim some credit for the administration
of particular measures.
