Now, please
take the law which declares that guaranties shall be for a year only.1 I do not lay stress on the law to show that I
should not pay what is due, if I actually became a surety, but I declare that
the law is a witness that I did not become one, and so is the fellow himself;
for otherwise he would have brought suit against me within the time specified by
the law.“
