From there they marched through Media, six desert stages, thirty parasangs, to the villages of Parysatis,1 the mother of Cyrus and the King. And Tissaphernes, by way of insulting Cyrus,2 gave over these villages—save only the slaves they contained—to the Greeks to plunder. In them there was grain in abundance and cattle and other property.
